The purpose of the single-step Tai Ji Quan videos is to help people who have learned the step to remember the key techniques and to practice what they learned at home on their own. Each single step video is the continuation of the previous step. Due to the movements shown in the video could be mirrored, it could be confusing about the direction of the movements for people who have not learned the previous step
As you may have noticed that all the single-step videos start with the sentence “Continue from step xx (the previous step)”. Why is it? one reason is to help you to understand the direction of the movements of the step. Based on the ending position and posture of the previous step, combined with the feet and hands movements, you should be able to tell the direction of the movements when you watch the video.
For example, the video of Step 21, began with “Continue from Step 20”. This tells you that step 21 will start from a bow stance with the right foot in the front, and left foot at the back; the left hand pushed forward at the shoulder level and parallel to the ground, and the right hand is in front of the right side of the hip, the fingers of the right hand pointing to the left and the palm down. With this in mind, and based on hands and feet movements, you should be able to tell the direction of the movements of step 21 when you watch the video.
Therefore, it is important to know the ending posture of the previous step when you watch the single-step video of the next step. It will help you to get the direction right. If you forget the ending posture of the previous step, try to recall or remember it by doing or watching the video of the previous step, or Tai Ji Part 1 or part 2 where the step is belonging.
