Aging affects not just how we look on the outside; it also impacts our internal organs, with the liver showing the most noticeable changes. As we age, both the number of liver cells and the liver’s metabolic function decrease.
If you want to live a long and healthy life, you must protect your liver.
The liver is the most important detoxification and metabolism organ in our body. Once the liver is damaged, it will affect the normal metabolism and operation of the whole body, which will have a great impact on health. Therefore, we must take good care of our livers and prevent pre-advanced aging!
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the systems in the human body related to grip strength are the “liver meridian system” and the “kidney meridian system.” The liver and kidneys share a common origin; the liver stores blood, and the kidneys store essence, and blood and essence mutually nourish each other. Therefore, forcefully clenching your fists helps nourish the liver, and consistently practicing this can calm the mind, consolidate vital energy, and nourish yin and reduce excess heat. It is an effective way to protect your liver.
So, not surprisingly, many Qigong forms include ‘the grip’ technique. For example, the “Black Dragon Probing Claws” in Yi Jin Jing, and the “clench fist and wide-eyed to increase the strength” in Baduanjin, all use the gripping method.
You can also grip your hands whenever it is suitable. Such as when you walk or are on the road, in the car, chatting, watching TV, or in a meeting, as long as your arms are free, you can hold them firmly. Very simple and convenient.
